Wonder App is a Creative Therapy App that I created the graphic design for. My goal was to raise awareness of mental health worldwide and let individuals know that their feelings matter. It is human instinct to have all types of emotions. Especially in this pandemic, people feel more isolated than before, and we may not have an outlet to express our anxiety and fear.
When we feel down and don’t want to talk to anyone, we doodle on a piece of paper, daydream, or play games to make us feel better. These casual activities help individuals release their stress, anxiety, depression, and so on. These activities often remind us of happy childhood memories, and are the inspiration for creating Wonder.
LOGO CONCEPT
I wanted the Wonder logo to be easy to memorize and for users to associate it as a positive symbol. Therefore, I decided to use a smiley face as it is the simplest way of suggesting a friendly and uplifting vibe.
COLOR+TYPOGRAPHY
The mood scale feature of the app utilizes ten different-colored characters, ranging from dark and cold to warm and bright. The larger the number users select, the brighter the color of the gif appears.
The overall app design utilizes green tone colors, such as Mint and Teal, making people feel relaxed due to the aesthetically pleasing colors. In addition, the color green has become a global sign for raising mental health awareness.
Wonder is a creative therapy app that gives users a childlike drawing gif based on the number users choose on a mood scale. Instead of following the traditional therapy app that links users to psychologists, I want to design a playful app, letting the users rate their daily moods from one to ten on a sliding scale.
After they submit the result on the app, random gifs according to colors on my mood scale will pop up on the screen.
The characters are often toy-like or cartoonish. The inspiration comes from children's drawings and my doodles in sketchbooks; the characters often appear making welcoming gestures or doing some fun activities. It is an imagination-driven character design, and I want to make this app a fun, creative, positive experience for users to boost their mood on a daily basis.
Each gifs are playful, and will brighten people's mood. This concept is inspired by Japanese capsule toy machine gashapon, people will get random toys after they put coins in the machine. The unknown result creates surprise and happiness for users.
After receiving their gif, the app gives users an option to join the larger Wonder community. This is a place where users can share their gifs, and see other users in the same space. Wonder aims to make people feel less alone in society, create positive user experience, and feel like they belong to the community.
